Profoto's Clic Softbox Octa is a small light modifier that's quick to set up and easy to carry—perfect for weddings and portraits on the go.

Designed for A-series flashes, the new Profoto Clic Softbox Octa is a portable solution for creating soft light when you’re on the go. Sure, you can use it in the studio, too, but this light modifier will come in particularly handy on location. The Profoto Octa Softbox is quick and easy to set up, lightweight and compact, and it can be used for a wide variety of photo scenarios.

If you’re familiar with Profoto’s A-series flashes and their snap-on, snap-off accessories, you’ve probably come to appreciate the convenience and speed of using magnetic attachments on your off-camera flash. The Clic Softbox Octa, as its name implies, is a small octagonal light modifier that would be perfect to use at weddings, for portraits, detail and product shots.

The Profoto Octa Softbox measures 2 feet across and is about 11.8 inches deep, so it’s large enough to deliver a good amount of light without overburdening a photographer’s kit. And the softbox works with other Profoto Clic accessories as well. It unfolds and folds up easily so you can set up and tear down your lights quickly and efficiently. The Profoto Octa Softbox comes with its own soft carry and storage case, too.

There’s a built-in stand adapter so you can mount the Clic softbox to a light stand and tilt the softbox to whatever angle that’s best for the scene in front of you. If it’s more convenient, you or your assistant can hold the flash and softbox combo by the stand adapter for handheld lighting flexibility.

I’ve been shooting with the Profoto A1 for several years and found the click system incredibly convenient and easy to use, so I may put this portable Octa on my wish list. It looks sturdy, it’s easy to transport and would certainly come in handy for backstage portraits at NY Fashion Week. And I imagine the wedding and portrait photographers will find the Clic Softbox Octa equally as appealing.
