I’ve never been to New Hampshire, but this shoot by Mikhail Glabets encapsulates everything I imagine a wedding there to include: a boathouse, a nautical color scheme and a bride who looks like she came from the pages of Town & Country.
I was so happy that Boston-based Glabets emailed me his wedding submissions because his work is on point—fresh, youthful and colorful.
“I believe in keeping photography honest, creative and fun,” he says. “My style is a mixture of authentically romantic photojournalistic moments.”

This particular wedding between Michaeleen and Sean took place at The Pinckney Boathouse in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. “Michaeleen and Sean were super sweet and I couldn’t dare to keep them from having fun with their family and friends,” Glabets says. “She was especially full of life and super joyful.”
The couple opted for cocktail hour at sea, and then as Glabets describes, “hopped on a classy speed boat and made their way to the reception in style; it was awesome.”
Although the full sunlight made for a beautiful day, it inevitably presented a photography challenge for Glabets.
“This wedding took place during some of the harshest light in the afternoon,” Glabets says. “Finding ways to capture all the fun and life and to expose for it all was probably the hardest.”
How did he solve it? “To minimize shadows on faces, I backlit everything and shot towards the sun, which also gives everything a really dynamic and lively feel.”

As for gear, Glabets used a Canon 5D Mark II and III. “I shoot 95 percent of my portraits with a 50mm 1.2 , the rest with 35mm 1.4,” Glabets says. “For ceremony and reception, I try to use longer lenses like the 85mm 1.8, and for ceremony, a 70-200mm 2.8 I.”
